Becoming a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum MasterⓇ (CSM) involves three steps:
Attend a two-day (16 hour) in-person or virtual Scrum Alliance-approved CSM course,
Accept the Terms & Conditions of the Scrum Alliance, and Take and pass the CSM exam.
Once all three steps are completed you are now a member of the Scrum Alliance and have obtained your CSM certification. You also have access to a printable certificate and a digital badge.
After you set up your Scrum Alliance profile, you will have access to the License Agreement and then the CSM exam. You have 90 days to complete the exam. The test consists of 50 multiple choice questions and must be completed in 60 minutes. Typically, the exam lasts approximately 40 minutes. You must get 37 or more out of 50 correct answers to pass. If you don’t pass the first time, you can take it a 2nd time. Over 99% of our 4500+ participants pass the exam.
The CSM exam is based on The Scrum Guide. Review any material from class and The Scrum Guide before taking the test.

Accept the Terms & Conditions of the Scrum Alliance.
Once both steps are completed you are now a member of the Scrum Alliance and have obtained your CSPO certification. You also have access to a printable certificate and a digital badge. Currently there is no exam for the CSPO certification. That could change in the future.
To have everyone in your organization aligned on how to become agile is very important so have as many people across all functions attend the CSM course. This gets everyone using the same terms and a shared understanding. CSM is not just for Scrum Masters but for everyone who needs to understand the framework, from leadership on down.
If your focus is on the Product Owner role because you are currently a PO or are an aspiring PO, then the CSPO workshop is for you. In fact, anyone who actively supports and regularly works with the PO would benefit from the CSPO workshop and help them better understand and support the PO role.
To participate in a Lucid Agile online workshop, you need the following:
- A quiet, comfortable place for the duration of the workshop,
- Ability to minimize distractions (e.g. email, phone, Slack, family, pets, etc),
- Access to a desktop or laptop computer (a tablet such as an iPad is insufficient),
- A dedicated camera and microphone (built in to most laptops),
- A headset or speakers for sound, and
- Broadband internet access (it needs to be sufficient for video/audio streaming).
We recognize that online training requires a long time on Zoom so we take regular breaks throughout the workshop.
To ensure that you qualify for Scrum Alliance certification, you shouldn’t step away from the workshop while it is in process for more than 30 minutes for the entire duration of the workshop. If you have questions about this, they can be addressed at the start of the workshop with the trainer.
Our workshops use primarily two easy-to-use tools for conducting online training: Zoom and a browser. We use a browser-based app called Mural and instructions on how to use Mural if you are unfamiliar are sent prior to the start of the workshop.
Yes, you can earn 16 PMI-recognized PDUs for either the CSM or CSPO workshops. When reporting the PDUs to PMI, it will not be necessary to enter a REP ID for Lucid Agile, as we are considered a 3rd Party Vendor.
PDU Breakdown for attending the 2-day CSM Workshop:
10 Hours: Technical project management – Knowledge, skills and behaviors related to specific domains of Project, Program and Portfolio Management.
3 Hours: Leadership – Knowledge, skills and behaviors specific to leadership-oriented, cross-cutting activities that help an organization achieve its business goals.
3 Hours: Strategic and business management – Knowledge of and expertise in the industry or organization that enhances performance and better delivers business outcomes.
